Quem diria que a Cisco haveria de fazer apps para o iphone… da Apple! Tudo bem que a querela do nome já foi ultrapassada, mas não fazia ideia de que a Cisco tinha aceite a situação tão bem. A app, chamada Webex parece-me verdadeiramente útil para tele-conferências.
After upgrading to AIR 1.5, my twhirl stopped working on my Linux Desktop (Damaged file). So, after banging my head against the wall, I found the solution. You have to remove the application from the system using your package manager (rpm / dpkg).
Try dpkg -l | grep twhirl or rpm -qa | grep twhirl, and you’ll see what I mean.
Afterwards, just install the latest Twhirl (0.8.7, as I write this post).
Twhirl should’ve post this bugfix on their page…
Uma das coisas em que hoje estive a pensar é que se o spam nunca mais acaba, será que é porque funciona?
Spammer-X describes one spam “case”: he bought two million email addresses for $200.00 (chapter 2). He runs the email addresses against a list of known “bad/filterable” lists and then sends 10,000 spam emails, using eight proxy servers, in 17 minutes. He’s able to track how many people whom he emailed visit the site he’s promoting (which happens to be a porn site in the case he describes). After 12 hours, he’s got 967 people to click onto his link. Many of those clicked from a “bulk mail” folder. And nearly all clicked to another page within the site. Out of the 967, one registers for monthly membership on the site. Spammer-X suggests that this case is fairly typical.
Nearly ten percent of the recipients clicked on a link from an unknown source. Spammer-X claims he made nearly $3000 for about 30 minutes of work. So his motivations are clear. But why are individuals responding? Spammer-X claims that he’s providing email readers with links they want but won’t admit they want.

CouchDB
Apache CouchDB is a distributed, fault-tolerant and schema-free document-oriented database accessible via a RESTful HTTP/JSON API. Among other features, it provides robust, incremental replication with bi-directional conflict detection and resolution, and is queryable and indexable using a table-oriented view engine with JavaScript acting as the default view definition language.
CouchDB is schema-less, eventually consistent, and speaks HTTP and JSON natively. One of the coolest pieces is the view layer, which uses MapReduce(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mapreduce) with map and reduce functions provided by JavaScript.
It replicates well in any topology you desire. Finally, we have master-master replication that works well. It can do this because it doesn’t assume away the problem of data conflicts. Instead, CouchDB provides tools to deal with conflicts.
Document oriented as in Object oriented. O ponto é que o paradigma muda. Esqueçam tabelas, colunas e olhem para objectos.
Para além de poupar a existência de um ORM, performance-wise é interessante neste momento para Reads, nada para Writes e, como guarda versões dos objectos, ainda menos interessante em necessidades de storage:

Esqueci-me de referir no post anterior a parceria do Sapo com a CreativeSystems IUZ, que providenciou tags RFId para o pessoal brincar no Codebits. Bem, a minha tag esteve off o tempo todo, e também um pouco por aí confesso que não me interessei muito pela coisa. Mas estou certo que quando chegarem as apresentações, aparecerão ideias muito giras à volta da coisa. Acho que foi uma excelente aposta da IUZ, que poderá retirar daqui projectos para concretizar no futuro.

Enquanto espero pela submissão do meu projecto, falo-vos um pouco da experiência codebits deste ano.
Estou, como no ano passado, junto dos screenies, com o VD, o Celso e o Ruben.
Uma boa novidade foi a presença da Make Magazine, e de um espaço virado para o hardware - sempre uma experiência gira com geeks. A meu ver, tirando a comida e dois ou três acidentes com Segways, esta edição demonstra uma evolução positiva. Sem stresses com rede… cablada, que wifi embora esteja muito melhor que a edição passada, continua com muitos clientes por AP.
Os momentos rockband foram também muito divertidos, talvez mais do que as experiências musicais do ano passado.
Estruturalmente, pareceu-me um Codebits com muito menos sobressaltos do que em 2007, mas penso que depois das sessões no primeiro dia havia possibilidade de se fazerem muitos mini-concursos (à la MCP). Mas continua a sua marca como ponto de reciclagem para o pessoal ligado às TI, onde nos vamos apercebendo e partilhando experiências, testes e desenvolvimentos pelos outros geeks semelhantes a nós.

Adorei ver a reportagem (e adorei que os meus pais a tivessem visto). Só não achei muita piada a terem misturado o bacano do Btuga, pois acho que não partilhava da mesma filosofia que os restantes e achei que a defesa que ele apresentou em relação ao processo em que é arguido foi no mínimo lame (a la save my ass). Foi também bom que o reconhecimento do Paulo Laureano e do Mário Valente tenha saído das esferas do negócio (já que tinham há muito extravasado o pequeno nicho que o PL referiu).
